In honor of Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, the Indian American Council at Houston Food Bank is shining a light on the issue of food insecurity and encouraging the community to mobilize in the fight against hunger. Two weeks ago at their launch event, the group raised commitments for more than one million meals, reflecting the “give where you live” spirit of business owners and individuals of the Indian American community who call southeast Texas their home. The group plans to fight the issues of hunger and food insecurity by mobilizing their communities to get involved with the Houston Food Bank through volunteering, holding food drives, donating funds, or raising awareness.
